Wild Edibles in and Around Wilmot

  • Wilmot Community Association 64 Village Road Wilmot, NH, 03287 United States (map)

Wilmot and adjacent communities are home to over 60 species of edible wild plants, including mushrooms, many of which are more nutritious and/or flavorful than their cultivated counterparts.

Join Russ Cohen, author of the book Wild Plants I Have Known…and Eaten, on June 6 at 6:30 p.m., at the WCA's Red Barn for a free 90-minute slide show to learn about at least two dozen of the tastiest wild plant species and mushrooms the region has to offer. The WCA is located at 64 Village Rd, Wilmot Flat next to the Wilmot Post Office.

This program is sponsored by the Wilmot Garden Club, Wilmot Conservation Commission and the Wilmot Community Association (WCA).

Keys to the identification of each species will be provided, along with information on edible portion(s), season(s) of availability and preparation methods, and guidelines for safe, ethical and environmentally-responsible foraging.

Cohen will also accompany his talk with handouts and samples of goodies made with wild foraged ingredients for people to sip and nibble on.
